Tom DeLay and his Texas Republican Party thought they had an ace in the hole in the form of extremist loon Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. They calmly assumed he would overturn a state court's ruling that DeLay's muddied name must appear on the congressional ballot in November and take the whoopin' he earned from Democrat Nick Lampson.
"I think all our legal avenues are exhausted in terms of affecting the ruling prior to the election," said Jim Bopp Jr., the GOP shyster who tried to get DeLay out of the embarrassing-- and costly-- mess. DeLay is still pursuing other legal avenues to keep out of prison on a myriad of corruption and money laundering charges.
DeLay is still considering ducking out on this fight and just leaving the Republicans to try to win with an as yet unpicked write-in candidate. DeLay's crooked daughter, Dani, who has been implicated in several of his criminal activities, says the old man hasn't made up his mind yet.
The D-Trip blog has all the details. I just wanted an excuse to run another ugly DeLay picture by Adam.
UPDATE: GOP VULTURES CIRCLE DELAY'S BLOATED CORPSE
So which Republican schnook(s) will try to get their name on the November ballot as a write-in candidate-- in a district that uses touch-screan voting machines? "It's difficult to get voters to take a write-in candidate seriously," said Houston City Council member Shelley Sekua-Gibbs, who's been doing some chop licking ever since it became clear that like the Little Bugman had been politically exterminated. Today's Washington Post also names Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace and a couple of wingnut state reps, Charlie Howard and Robert Talton, as potential DeLay successors.
